Sidebar Instructions: How to set content to a page's sidebar.
Content entered into a spotlight item's WYSIWYG will show up in sidebars. Spotlight link, target and image fields are not utilized and will not show up anywhere if assigned. To make a particular spotlight item show up in the correct sidebar please give the spotlight item a title of the last part of the page's URL (this is the SEO URL value). Example:
to make a spotlight item show up in the Community page's side bar give it a title of "community".
This sidebar item would have a title of "international-transportation".
The sidebar item would be titled "air-freight".
This system will work for subpages, service categories and service detail pages. Anything beyond that is not supported.
Because we're assigning sidebar content by a URL framgment, the system is limited only to pages with different names. Example:
These both have a last URL fragment of "carrier-value" and thus making a spotlight entitled "carrier-value" will show up on both of these pages if they have an active sidebar. It is suggested to make sure pages with the same name or similar names have different SEO URL values if:
Both are utilizing a sidebar.
Both have the exact same name.
Both need to show different sidebar content independent of each other.
To differentiate them, make one have a slightly different name when first creating the page/content. The title given to a new page will be set as that page's SEO URL value (without the capitals and spaces of course). The page can then be edited and renamed later to a different name, even the same name as an existing page, but the SEO URL value will stay the same. Example:
When making resources/carrier-value page (assume we already have a general carrier-value page not under resources), first name it "Carrier Values" (with an s) to set the SEO URL as "carrier-values". This small difference will allow for different sidebars on "carrier-values" vs "carrier-value". I can then re-name the page "Carrier Value" (without the s) so the title looks the same as the other page however the SEO URL will not be changed (it will still be "carrier-values") and allow us to have different sidebar content for each of these pages.
If you have a case of two pages having the same SEO URL value and need it to be changed please contact support. SEO URL values cannot be changed or controlled in the CMS once set. A developer must edit this.
(NOTE: I'm using the page "carrier-value" just as an example because this is the only case so far of this site having two pages with the same name, the carrier value pages don't actually have a sidebar so there are no real conflicts with these pages).
Please do not create multiple spotlight items with the same title/for the same page. If you created, for example, two spotlight items with the title "about" they both will show up on the about page; however the order in which they show depends on their sorting value and it's harder to keep track of multiple items for one page mixed in with other items for other pages. There is no benefit in having multiple spotlight items for one page so it's best to keep it limited to one. It all fits in the wysiwyg just the same and will be less confusing to manage long term.
To easily keep track of which spotlight items go to what, please also enter a title into the "manuel link" field as well so it will show up on overview in the CMS. The link value is not used for anything in this case but makes a good label so we can easily see what items belong to what pages in the Spotlight Overview.
